The proper consistency is achieved when the wet mortar will “hang” on a trowelĭampen the footing surface with water and place a one-inch bed of mortar on the footing. TIP: when preparing to place a trowel full of mortar, gently “snap” the trowel downward to removeĪny excess mortar. Snap a chalk line on each side of the block wall as a reference line. Lay out the block, making sure to leave a 3/8 inch gap between the blocks to allow for the vertical mortar joints (i.e., a typical 8x8x16 block is actually 15-5/8 inches long and 7-5/8 inches high to accommodate the mortar joint). Rebar should be placed in every other masonry core to provide structural support.įor masonry cores over 4 inches wide, QUIKRETE Core Fill Grout – Coarse should be poured around the rebar for masonry cores under 4 inches wide, QUIKRETE Core Fill Grout-Fine should be used. NOTE: it is important to check local building codes for construction requirements in your area.įor load-bearing walls, tie rods should be set a minimum of 6 inches into the concrete footing before it is set. Footings should be a minimum of twice the width of the concrete block (i.e., a typical 8x8x16 block would require a 16-inch wide footing) and extend below the frost line. The other cashiers at least know how to engage with customers. When working with cement-based products, always wear eye protection and waterproof gloves.Įnsure a solid footing. She is so unpleasant that the next time I will wait until another cashier is available just so I don't have to encounter her again. When I explained the trays would prevent the plant containers from tipping over, you would have thought I was asking for free money. I could clearly see there were several made up trays on a table but she told me I could only have a plastic sheet. The first encounter I asked for two cardboard trays for the several plants I purchased so they could sit upright in the car. I've had the unfortunate experience of getting her three times in the last month and she has the personality of a thumbtack. My only concern is the grumpy older woman who is a cashier. Without a doubt the quality of the plants are exceptional. I love this store! I find myself there at least twice a week to buy perennials, shrubs, houseplants, and even early this season I purchased trees. It amazes me that not only did employee act this way but the management is on the same page. approach would have been “Excuse me miss I believe that our agent loaded too many plants, can we make sure it’s correct? Sorry for the mistake.” Customer service 101. When my wife brought up this embarrassing conduct the manager basically sided with the employee. If this is how they do business we are definitely no longer customers and our family and friends will be informed of how they treat customers. She then blamed my wife for not being aware of the extra plants, inferring that she’s a thief. My wife began to leave and a saleslady starts yelling and waving hands that she’s not allowed to leave with those plants. The person loading made an error and loaded too many. Their job is to correlate the order to what’s supposed to be loaded. She submitted the receipt and the agent loads the vehicle. My wife went to pick up a plant order which she had multiples of but some were on backorder. My wife and I have been customers since 2004.
